Technology and the Internet change so rapidly that we
barely have time to get used to one of the new concept before it is immediately
replaced by another and becomes outdated¡
It is available
anywhere and for any purpose, and we as teachers can integrate the use of ICT
into subject practice. As a teacher of English I try to get good benefits of
using technology in order to help my students learn English. Although I concern
so much about some forms of use, it is true that it is a powerful tool in our
classrooms. I think that using it our students are highly motivated,
autonomous, independent and enjoy their learning. The need to use ICT enhances
learning compared with other approaches, and I ask my students to explore the
web to get sources of learning, especially when we work with interdisciplinary
projects on other subjects (Maths, Social Sciences, Geography, etc)
In my English lessons I try to get effective and
varied use of ICT in order to improve teaching and learning. For me it is
important to know how my students learn, so the first thing I do it is a
questionnaire about their way of learning. This helps me to look for the best
resource for each student. So we can relate the use of ICT with Multiple Intelligences
developed by Gardner.
I usually provide pupils with opportunities to use ICT
to assist and progress their learning in English:

Technology always brings changes such as new additions
to the language, new forms of communication (chats, text-messages, shortcuts,
etc) and a more relaxed attitude towards the written language. So we can speak
about a ‘global village’ which makes vital the communication. I think teachers
are ready.
It is possible,
of course, that schools will be different. ONLY TIME WILL TELL.
